Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8 week course that was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at UMass Medical School’s Stress Reduction Clinic, as a complement to medical treatment at the UMass Medical Center.
MBSR was designed to teach people how to use their innate resources and abilities to respond more effectively to stress, pain and illness.
In weekly MBSR classes students are introduced to meditation, yoga, and body awareness. Guided practices, presentations, class discussions and daily home assignments are provided each week in a supported, safe learning environment.
The totality of this approach cultivates the capacity to integrate mindfulness into the challenges and adventures of daily life.
